- British born
Christopher Moffitt, (1966) was raised in Gozo, Malta. Lived in USA, Libya,
Australia, Berlin and Great Britain. Lives in Zurich.
- To catch a
specific moment in time is crucial to Moffitt`s paintings. Impressions and
atmosphere where everything else becomes blurred and obscured, that moment when
all that matters is the feeling that one is united and rooted, yet elevated,
floating. Moffitt`s profound
knowledge of materials and technique allows him to create a deep sense of space
without underdrawings or sketches, concentrating only on ambiance and an
atmosphere which he holds in his memory. Intuitively applied, often wet-in-wet,
multiple thin layers of different media and pigments are laid one over another,
where the materials interact like a controlled chemical experiment. Different
versions are executed on the same canvas, clinging to a particular memory, they
change as they evolve. The moment is then captured and made accessible to the
viewer by the addition of precisely painted subjects or silhouettes.
